2/1/2017

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of Chromolaena odorata (C.odorata) and Boerhavia erecta (B.erecta) on lipid peroxidation and antioxidants in Lead acetate-induced Nephrotoxicity in male Wistar rats. The rats of the nephrotoxicity control group 2 were administered lead-acetate 10mg/kg body weight, intraperitoneally in 3 days once for 15 days. In nephrotoxicity rats, Oral treatment with C.odorata, B.erecta at a daily dose of (500 mg/kg b.wt) and silymarin (25 mg/kg b.wt) groups (3, 4 and 5) for last 15 days. The Lead-acetate-induced rats showed increase in the level of lipid peroxidation and decreased levels of superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase and reduced glutathione in serum and kidney. Oral treatment with C.odorata, B.erecta and silymarin in nephrotoxicity induced rats showed significantly decrease in the levels of kidney and serum lipid peroxidation and significant (p

Antioxidant activity of Methanolic fruit extract of Morinda Tinctoria Roxb in Cerebral Ischemia Induced by Bilateral Common Carotid artery occlusion in rats.

Anand M and Muralidharan P
4/1/2014

The present study was designed to investigate te antioxidant activity oof methanolic extract of Morinda Tinctoria Roxb against (MEMT) fruits in the cerebral ischemia induced animal model system.  Global cerebral ischemia was induced by temporary bilateral common carotid  artery occlusion for 15 min followed by reperfusion in Sprague Dawley Rats  and the animals were pre-treated with MEMT (200 and 400 mg kg-1) for 1 week before induction. After induction of ischemia by BCCAO animals were again treated with MEMT for 1 week and the animals were sacrificed. Homogenized content of brain were estimated in control, sham and treatment groups. The MEMT showed the significance of p

In Vitro Antioxidant Activity and Free Radical Scavenging Potential of Hydroalcoholic Extract of Gutenbergia Nigritana Benth.

6/1/2013

This study was carried out to determine the polyphenolic contents and antioxidant activity of hydroalcoholic extract of Gutenbergia nigritana leaves using in vitro models. The ability of the extract to scavenge free radicals such as 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH•), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and nitric oxide (NO) was investigated. The ferric reducing antioxidant power, total phenols and flavonoids contents of the extract were also determined using spectrophotometric methods. The result showed that the extract scavenge the radicals in a concentration dependent manner. The Free radical scavenging potentials of the extract was found to be proportional to its polyphenolic contents. Our findings revealed that the leaves of Gutenbergia nigritana contain biologically active constituents and therefore may be used as a potent antioxidant for the management of radical related diseases.
