Formulation and Evaluation of Mouth Dissolving Tablet of Lornoxicam Using Novel Natural Superdisintegrants.

Kiran Dagadu Baviskar et al.
2/1/2020

The present research is focused on development of mouth dissolving tablet of Lornoxicam using novel superdisintegrants from natural resources. The research is carried out to potentiate the use of natural excipients instead of synthetic ones. Lornoxicam B cyclodextrin complex is formed as it increases the solubility of drug and to mask the taste of drug while having many advantages such as improve dissolution, and bioavailability. Tablets were prepared using natural superdisintegrants like gum karaya, Plantago ovata husk. and synthetic superdisintegrants like Crospovidone, Kyron T-314, Croscarmellose Sodium. Tablet containing 6 % of gum karaya shows better results over the formulation containing synthetic or other natural superdisintegrants like Plantago ovata husk. The formulated tablet melts in mouth within fraction of seconds with promising release of drug. The present study demonstrated potentials for rapid absorption, improved bioavailability, effective therapy, acceptable taste and patient compliance. The accelerated stability study of batch (F2) revealed that no significant change in physical properties and could be considered as stable formulation even after 3 months.

A Review on Development and Evaluation of Mouth Dissolving Anti-inflammatory Tablet Containing Fenoprofen

Shailendra Singh Narwariya et al.
4/1/2019

The objective of this paper was to attempt to investigate a review the Development and evaluation of mouth dissolving antinflammatory tablet containing fenoprofen. MDT is used methods to improve patient’s compliance have always attracted scientists towards the development of fancy oral drug delivery systems. Among them, mouth dissolving drug delivery systems (MDDDS) have acquired an important position in the market by overcoming previously encountered administration problems and contributing to extension of patent life. In the present scientific scenario the drug delivery technology has become highly competitive and rapidly evolving with ever increasing demand. Fast dissolving tablet (FDT) is one such type of an innovative and unique drug delivery system which is swiftly gaining much attention in the research field of rapid dissolving technology. Oral route is the most expedient and safest route of drug delivery because of wide range of drugs are administered through this route. Recently researchers have developed fast dissolving tablet (FDT) which dissolve or disintegrate rapidly in mouth saliva without intake of water. This novel drug delivery such as FDT or MDT (mouth dissolving tablet) has overcome many disadvantages like dysphagia or non accessibility of water while travelling. When compared with conventional dosage form FDT can be a useful alternative as well. This review article contains different techniques used for preparing FDT, silent features, various patented technologies, and mechanism of super disintegration, challenges faced and the limitations.

Formulation and Evaluation of Mouth Dissolving Tablet of Norfloxacin with Piperine and their Antibacterial Activity.

Vijay Kumar Singh et al.
10/1/2013

Drug delivery through oral route is widely accepted through all over world. Mouth dissolving tablet is most suitable tablet than conventional tablet. The main characteristic which is in the favors of mouth dissolving tablet is that there is no need of water to take it. Due to this it become more suitable dosage form for pediatric and geriatric patients. Since bioavailability of mouth dissolving tablet is high than conventional tablet, and mixing of piperine with it make them much more advance dosage form. Due to the addition of piperine in the drug, the dose size is reduced, and enhanced the onset of action. Addition of piperine with norfloxacin also increase the antibacterial activity and make them more effective.

Mouth Dissolving Tablets: A Review

VishnumurthyVummaneni and Lotika Chawla
6/1/2012

Conventional dosage forms like tablets and capsules are now a days facing the problems like dysphagia, resulting in the high incidence of non compliance and making the therapy ineffective. To obviate the problems associated with conventional dosage forms, mouth dissolving tablets have been developed having good hardness, dose uniformity, easy administration and serves as the first choice of dosage form for paediatrics, geriatrics and travelling patients. The MDTs were developed with an aim of having sufficient hardness, integrity and faster disintegration without water. Various approaches for the formulation of MDTs include Direct compression, Wet granulation, Freeze drying, Spray drying, Moulding, Cotton candy process and Sublimation. Novel technologies like Zydis Orasolv, Durasolv, Flash dose technology, Wowtab etc are available as patented technologies, most commonly used in preparation of MDTs. Drugs belonging to antibiotics, antiviral etc are now formulated as MDTs to minimize the draw backs of conventional dosage forms. Examples of Marketed MDTs are Cefadur DT, Zofran ODT, Acivir DT etc. Due to wide significance of MDT, this drug delivery system may lead to better patient compliance and ultimate clinical output.
