2 publicationsA Review on Gastroretentive Floating Drug Delivery System
One of the most feasible approaches for achieving prolonged and predictable drug delivery profiles in gastrointestinal tract is to control the Gastric Residence Time (GRT) using gastro retentive dosage forms (GRDFs) that offer a new and better option for drug therapy. Oral delivery of drugs is by far the most preferable route of drug delivery. Oral-rate controlled drug delivery systems have an important area among novel drug delivery system. But these oral sustained release drug delivery systems suffer greatly due to their short gastric residence time/ gastric emptying time. Whereas prolonged gastric residence increases duration of drug release, reduces drug waste, and improves drug solubility in gastric pH. In order to overcome these drawbacks novel dosage forms that can be retained in the stomach for a prolonged and predictable period of time were discovered and they successfully exists today as gastro retentive dosage forms, in academic and industrial research groups. The objective of our review is to compile the recent advancements and literatures regarding the novel dosage form i.e. the floating drug delivery systems (FDDS) that can be retained in the stomach for a prolonged period of time and gives therapeutic action in a predetermined manner. Several approaches are currently utilized in the prolongation of the GRT, including floating drug delivery systems (FDDS), swelling and expanding systems, polymeric bioadhesive systems, high-density systems, modified-shape systems and other delayed gastric emptying devices. In this review, current & recent developments of Stomach Specific FDDS are discussed. The recent developments of FDDS including the physiological and formulation variables affecting gastric retention, approaches to design single-unit and multiple-unit floating systems, and their classification and formulation aspects are covered in detail.
Buoyant Drug Delivery Systems: A Comprehensive Review
Novel drug delivery systems are need of recent developments. Controlled drug delivery systems for oral route are widely acceptable and easy to formulate. Oral controlled release systems developed to overcome short comings of conventional controlled released formulations such as short gastric residence time, unpredictable gastric emptying time, unstable at higher pH, site specific absorption, etc. Various approaches have been developed to retain dosage form in stomach for longer period of time. Bioadhesive systems, high density systems, expanding or swelling systems, effervescent buoyant systems has been discovered till date. Drugs those having narrow absorption window in stomach, stable at acidic pH and unstable in the intestinal or colonic pH, having low solubility at higher pH are suitable to develop as buoyant drug delivery systems. Present review focuses on various aspects of buoyant drug delivery systems.

1 publicationA Review - Bilayer Floating Drug Delivery System
In the recent years, scientific and technological advancements have been made in the research and development of novel drug delivery systems by overcoming physiological troubles such as short gastric residence times and unpredictable gastric emptying times. Several approaches are currently utilized in the prolongation of the gastric residence times, including floating drug delivery systems, swelling and expanding systems, polymeric bioadhesive systems, modified-shape systems, high-density systems and other delayed gastric emptying devices. This review entitled the detailed scenario related to Bilayer floating drug delivery system with their advantages over the conventional drug delivery system and also limitation, which are helpful in development of dosages form. Various types of techniques employed for development of this dosages form. Review focused on formulation aspect of effervescent floating drug delivery system with their evaluation techniques. The purpose of this comprehensive review is to compile the work going on this delivery system. Which provide the valuable information related to formulation aspect to achieve gastric retention and discussed the various factors affect and to overcome it
